Origin of Sufism
Sufism has been explained by many scholars of different times in various manner, if we go into the depth and understand the one line conclusion for the same, then the answer will be it is “Way of Life” If we go back to the origin and generally accepted definition of the word sufi by many scholars and saints “the word sufi is derived from the origin word “Soof” which means wool, earlier Sufis generally used to wear the cloth made of wool, therefore pious saints followed this sacred tradition of wearing the cloth made of wool and used to worship were called “Sufi”. Although the above given definition is confirmed origin and commonly accepted by all, the origin of the word and the meaning is differently interpreted. In order to understand the essence of Sufism, it is very important to know the explanation of Sufism given by some great sufi saints according to their own experience.
Hazrat Khwaja Shaikh Ali Hujwari says in his own view “a Sufi is one who has strictly disciplined his moral, spiritual and religious character in harmony with Divine Love and Commandments of God on the one hand, further added that he cleanses his worldly life by renunciation, self – mortification and absolute devotion to God until his heart becomes crystal clear, free from all desires and prejudice.
Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Hasan Chishty (Radi Allahuu Anhu) has again explained the same concept in his own view, he says “Sufism is scrupulously maintained moral character and religious discipline which one must necessarily cultivate and observe towards all the creatures of God in the interests of peace and happiness of mankind”. Hazrat Khwaja Ibn-El-Jalali said “Sufism is a truth without form”.
According to Sufi “It is a path to find out joy in the heart even during grief".
